November Morning

is the time

to know our breasts

are for music

to bang on them like drums

with hard, closed fists.

Noise gets attention

the clatter of weary bones

recalling how to rise.

Our hands

must remember

we were cave dwellers once

learning how to make our own light.

Caitlin Springer is a queer Boston-based based poet who is currently focusing on experimental lyric poetry. When she is not writing you may find her slinging drinks from behind a bar somewhere, dancing around the living room in her socks, or playing Doc as a United States Coast Guard Corpsman. She is currently the managing editor for Mortar Magazine and you can find her work in Origins, Burningword, Yellowchair Review and elswhere.
